Frequently asked questions
What is A to Zzz?
A to Zzz is a free bedtime game, a version of the classic alphabet game. You pick a category, like Animals, and name something for every letter of the alphabet: Ant, Bear, Cat, all the way to Zebra. You play it in the browser on your phone, with no download or account.
Does the alphabet game really help you fall asleep?
That’s the idea. Your mind gets a calm, easy task, so there’s less room left for worrying. It’s similar to cognitive shuffling, a sleep technique developed by Canadian cognitive scientist Luc Beaudoin: you picture random, peaceful things instead of your worries. The research on it is still small. And it’s a game, not a treatment: if you’ve been sleeping badly for a while, talk to your doctor.
Can you play it together?
Yes, that’s what it was made for. One person picks a category, the other names something for every letter. You can also take turns, one letter each. Playing alone works too: just play it in your head.
Is it good for kids too?
Yes, as a calm bedtime game. Type an easy category yourself, like Animals, Fruit or Toys. Surprise me can also pick a grown-up category, like Cocktails.
What about tricky letters like Q, X and Y?
Just skip them with the Skip button. You can also turn on Skip tricky letters before you start. Then Q, X and Y won’t come up at all.
Does it cost anything, and do I need to install it?
No. A to Zzz is free and works in any modern browser, on your phone, tablet or computer. You don’t need an account. Want to open it with one tap? Add it to your home screen. After that it works offline too.
What does the app store about me?
Only your settings and the categories you picked recently, and those stay on your own phone. There’s no account, and the app doesn’t send anything about you.
